IMPAC University requires that all students enrolled in the MIS degree program posses a laptop computer meeting a minimum configuration standard. This required laptop and minimum configuration was established to ensure that you receive the best possible learning experience while participating in our program. Please remember that the minimum is just that - a minimum.
If you will be purchasing new equipment, keep in mind that prices change on computers daily. We do not recommend attempting to purchase the absolute latest and fastest model, unless you feel you need that level of power for other reasons. High-end configurations quickly become mainstream configurations, and prices drop dramatically at the same time. Look for your best combination of features, power, and price that meets the current recommended configuration, below.
Minimum Hardware Configuration:
- Laptop Computer compatible with Windows 2000 Professional
- Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional Operating System
- Pentium II 350Mhz processor or higher
- 128 Megabytes RAM
- 8 GB Hard Drive
- CD-ROM Drive
- Ethernet Card or Port (10-Base-T) - for use on campus
- 33.6-baud modem with Internet Access
- If you use AOL, you must use version 5.0 or higher.
Recommended Hardware Configuration:
- Laptop Computer compatible with Windows 2000 Professional
- Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional Operating System
- Pentium III 750Mhz processor or higher
- 256 Megabytes RAM or more
- 12 GB Hard Drive
- CD-RW Drive
- Ethernet Card or Port (10-Base-T) - for use on campus
- 56K-baud modem, or other high speed Internet access
- i.e., Cable Modem, DSL, etc.
- Internet access via an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- We recommend Dell, Gateway, or Toshiba laptops. Always look or ask for Student or Academic discounts.
Minimum Software Configuration:
- Microsoft Office 2000 Professional
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Available in an Academic Edition for substantially less than normal retail price. We recommend www.Provantage.com.
- Internet Explorer 5.0 (or AOL 5.0)
Recommended Software Configuration:
- Microsoft Office 2000 Professional or XP Professional
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher
- Available in an Academic Edition for substantially less than normal retail price. We recommend www.Provantage.com.
